You're Up!
Liner Notes
The CD you are holding in your hands is the
fifth album of the SAP BIG BAND, and features
eight uplifting tunes that either were written or
arranged by Europeans. Don't be fooled – this
is not elevator music. Instead, we want to show
you some of the enormous breadth and depth
of talent we are surrounded by here in the old
world. Europe, You're Up!
The mixture of tunes on this release is just as
wild and exciting as our continent. You will find
modern original compositions written by local
heroes such as Rainer Tempel (Stadt-Land-
Fluss), a German TV theme (Robbi, Tobbi und
das Fliewatüüt), artfully arranged jazz standards
(The Shadow Of Your Smile) – you name it. In
this eclectic mix, the title track has a special
significance for us as a band. Composed by Peter
Hinsbeeck, a member of our saxophone section,
it became an instant favorite of ours the first time
we rehearsed it. With its lively opening theme
and catchy pop beat, it gives a number of band
members their eight bars in the spotlight. You
could call this type of solo the musical equivalent
of the proverbial "elevator pitch" - it requires that
you say what you have to say short and sweet.
And that's what we did.
Recording this music in the studio was again a
great experience for all of us. Hopefully some
of the fun we had can be heard through your
speakers or headphones at home.
